World Blood Donor Day 2022: Join The Effort & Save Lives
World Blood Donor Day 2022: The day will be hosted by Mexico’s National Blood Center, and the worldwide event will take place on June 14 in the city.
According to the World Health Organization, World Blood Donor Day is recognized every year on June 14 with the goal of raising awareness about the necessity for safe blood as well as blood products for transfusion.
The day also recognizes the vital role that unpaid and voluntary blood donors play in saving lives in health care systems.
The day is observed to endorse and provide an opportunity for health agencies to offer extra adequate resources to increase blood collection from unpaid, voluntary blood donors, and to manage blood and transfusion access.
According to the WHO, it also helps “national blood donation services, blood donor organizations, and other non-governmental organizations strengthen and expand their voluntary blood donor programs by enhancing national and local campaigns.”
Every day, transfusions using safe blood plus blood products save a number of lives. While there is a worldwide need for blood, it is not universally available.
It is estimated by the WHO that blood shortages are most acute in countries with low and moderate incomes.
