Wasim Akram’s Banana Comment Sparks Row; Yograj Singh Responds

Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has slammed the likes of Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar amid their unforgiving comments about the current Pakistan cricket team. To him, legends of the sport should inspire rather than humiliate the team to rise to a level.
Yograj Singh’s comments
Angered by these remarks, Yograj Singh slammed Akram and Akhtar for tearing apart the players, as he believes, without making an effort towards their development.
“Such remarks are degrading for Wasim Akram. Another big name, Shoaib Akhtar, is attacking the players too. While Wasim is earning with a commentary, why not go back and coach the boys? If none has contributed to a World Cup win, they should vacate their positions!”
Yograj Singh to Coach Team
A hard taskmaster, he confidently said he could transform Pakistan into a winning team within a year.
“I will go over there. In one year, I will make a team so everybody knows them. What matters is passion. I sit with the young cricketers and spend 12 hours with them training. It is easy to talk about how love for your country should translate into your blood and sweat.”
Pakistan’s Disappointment in Exiting the Champions Trophy
Host Pakistan, for the first time since 1996, was knocked out of its own Champions Trophy 2025 just in four days after succumbing to Group A matches against New Zealand and India. New Zealand kept throwing sand on the hopes of Pakistan when they confronted Bangladesh.
After this debacle, former cricketers such as Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Javed Miandad, Shoaib Malik, and Mohammad Hafeez harshly blasted the team.

Wasim Akram’s Banana Controversy
In one of the most sensational comments, Wasim Akram chided the Pakistan players for eating bananas during a match. He said during a post-match show: “I saw a plate full of bananas brought out for the players. Even monkeys do not eat so many bananas! If Imran Khan were captain, he would have beaten me up for this.”
He also questioned what prevents great Pakistan players from working on coaching the team:
“If a six-month coaching camp was conducted by Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, or Shoaib Akhtar, would PCB dare say no? Certainly not; they would get back in studios to formulate some trash on the players while they cash in.”
