Consequently, Suchi Mausam Chaudhary, the MLA from Bijnor Sadar’s seat of UP, was angry and waited for three hours for a team of investigators to arrive and collect road samples for further investigation. She was mollified only after district magistrate Umesh Mishra pledged to punish the guilty.
Reportedly, the irrigation department was to build a 7 km long road on the canal track at a cost of Rs 11.6 crore in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. Suchi Mausam Chaudhary said that she was called to inaugurate the road, but when she arrived and attempted to crack a coconut, the coconut did not break, and chunks of the road fell off. Reportedly, a three-person committee was set up to take action against those who were guilty.
However, Vikas Agarwal, the executive engineer of Bijnor’s irrigation department, denied such allegations and stated that it was not true. The irrigation department has requested that the District Magistrate investigate to ensure no misunderstandings.
According to the Times of India, a local resident said, “With state elections closing in, the authorities may have rushed with the inauguration event. Lucky the coconut didn’t land on someone’s head.” This is a major embarrassment for the BJP government as the UP election is just around the corner. The election will be held in UP between February to March 2022. All the political parties have stepped up their game ahead of the election.
