US State Department Denies Russian Claims of Election Interference in India
There has been a big reaction from the US State Department on Russian claims. Russia was claiming that the United States was trying to interfere in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in India.
In response to Russian claims, the US Department’s spokesperson Matthew Miller told the media sources, “No, of course, we don’t involve ourselves in elections in India as we don’t involve ourselves in elections anywhere in the world. Those are decisions for the people of India to make.”
This response came after the allegations of Russia. Priorly, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the US is trying to interrupt elections in India by using religion and freedom violations.
Zakharova’s remarks were made regarding a recent article in The Washington Post. Maria Zakharova said that in a Washington Post article, it was shown that RAW is involved in an alleged plot to murder Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
She told reporters that “Regular unfounded accusations by the United States against New Delhi… we see that they groundlessly accuse not only India but also many other states…of violating religious freedoms are a reflection of the United States’ misunderstanding of the national mentality, the historical context of the development of the Indian state and disrespect for India as a state.”

The Russian spokesperson claimed that America is trying to influence the general public opinion from India, this can have a direct impact on the ongoing general elections in the democracy.
But after these claims when a reporter asked Miller about the Washington Post article then this US person denied to make any comment on it. He said this is a legal matter.
He said this is a formal accusation returned to the public which contains the facts alleged. These are allegations until they are proven to a jury. I won’t talk about them here because of course this is an ongoing legal matter and I’ll leave it at that.
In between this high voltage drama, Eric Garcetti- US Ambassador to India said that the US government is satisfied with the accountability of the Indian government on the Pannun murder case.
