Union Budget 2022: Opposition Slams The Centre, Says No Relief For Middle-Class

The opposition slammed the Union budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Union Budget 2022-23 today. Nirmala Sitharaman announced the Budget for the fiscal year beginning 1 April.

With steadily increasing poverty and unemployment rates, all eyes were set on Budget 2022 as a beacon of hope for the revival of the economy. However, Congress said that the Union Budget has nothing to offer to the middle classes, youth, farmers, or women. Congress’s Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet that it was a “Zero-sum budget.”

Opposition slams the Union Budget

Randeep Singh Surjewala, General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee for Karnataka, said that India’s salaried class and middle class were hoping for relief during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, all-round pay cuts, and back-breaking inflation. He accused the Finance Minister and Prime Minister of disappointing middle-class people in Direct Tax measures. He said the truth of the Budget is that “it was a nothing budget.”

Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien slammed the government saying that Diamonds are this government’s best friend. Customs duty on cut and polished diamonds is reduced to 5 percent, which means polished gems will get cheaper. He said that the Prime Minister does not care about farmers, the middle class, daily earners, and unemployed people.
