Unaccustomed Earth Netflix Series with Freida Pinto

Netflix is adapting Jhumpa Lahiri’s celebrated collection of short stories, Unaccustomed Earth, into an eight-episode drama series. Freida Pinto and Siddharth have signed on to star as leads in the series. It’s the first time a collaborative project of this sort has fused Indian cinema news with international talent.

Unaccustomed Earth is framed within a closely knit Indian American community in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with themes of love, desire, and belonging. The story centers around Parul Chaudhury (Freida Pinto), who is a devoted wife until she reunites with her long-lost love, Amit Mukherjee (Siddharth), which leads to a scandal that not only shakes their community’s multi-generational customs but also challenges the couple’s cultural identities.

The series is being adapted by Madhuri Shekar, who has previously worked on 3 Body Problem; directed by Ritesh Batra, who is best known for The Lunchbox; and the showrunner and executive producer is John Wells, producer on shows like ER and Shameless.
