UK Launches ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ to Save Indian Citizens from Scams

The UK government has launched a major ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ campaign to protect Indian citizens against visa scams and illegal migration. This campaign is meant to prevent the physical, financial, and psychological risks posed by visa fraud.
The campaign includes a dedicated WhatsApp helpline in English and Punjabi (+91 70652 51380) for the identification of common visa frauds and an official advisory on traveling to the UK legally.
The campaign was formally launched at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar in the august presence of LPU Chancellor and Member of Parliament Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal.
How the campaign helps
- Educates people on common visa scams.
- Alerts one against false job promises in the UK.
- Brings to light fake claims like “No English test (IELTS) required.”
- Warns regarding the premiums charged by fraudsters.
- Encourages individuals to use legal migration channels.
Risks of Visa Fraud
Engaging in visa fraud can be detrimental and expensive. Many become burdened with debts or fall into the hands of physical violence and exploitation; hence, anyone caught in visa fraud could end up being banned from entering the UK for about a decade or more.
The UK and India are committed to combat irregular migration through the Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement, another measure that has further cemented their collaboration in taking action against visa fraud and immigration fraud.
“Life has given us an opportunity never before to travel, study, and work in the UK,” said Christina Scott, the British Deputy High Commissioner to India. “Indian nationals continue to receive the lion’s share of visit and work visas for the UK.”
