UAE Launches Two-Week Philanthropic Campaign to Support Lebanon
To show solidarity with Lebanon in its current ongoing humanitarian woes, the United Arab Emirates has kicked off a two-week charity drive. Launched in the wake of the directions from the President of the UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the campaign seeks support of the community in the UAE for the Lebanese people.
UAE’s Promise in Humanitarian Aid
The campaign was initiated by H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs, and the Chairman of the International Humanitarian & Philanthropic Council titled “The UAE Stands with Lebanon.” Scheduled for October 8-21, it aims at engaging all members of the UAE community, such as educational institutions and representatives of both public and private sectors.
Theyab stressed the UAE leadership, under the President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, support for Lebanon. He was optimistic about the readiness of the UAE community to join the side of the struggling and offer them a helping hand. This campaign comes after President Sheikh Mohamed ordered $100 million in relief aid to Lebanon, the latest need.

Immediate Relief Efforts
Concerning the crisis, the UAE has not wasted time as it has dispatched six planes containing about 205 tons of medical supplies, food, relief materials & shelter equipment to Lebanon. This immediate response shows the level of preparedness of the UAE in responding to disaster and its willingness to help those in need.
The relief efforts were in collaboration with the WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR IFRCRCS and other agencies. It also emphasizes the extent of the UAE’s participation within the international systems involving cooperation with humanitarian organizations.
