Two Terrorists Killed in Encounter with Security Forces in Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir
Today security forces eliminated two terrorists during an encounter in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir. The gunfight erupted after security personnel launched an anti-terror operation in the Halkan Gali area following reports of militant activity in the region.
Earlier in the day a separate encounter took place in Srinagar’s Khaynar area. This was part of a cordon and search operation conducted jointly by local police and security forces, as authorities ramped up counter-terror operations in response to a recent string of targeted attacks on civilians.
Kashmir Zone Police shared an update about the operation:
The operations come on the heels of a violent incident where two migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh were injured in a terror attack in Budgam district. This was the fourth targeted assault on migrant workers in the Kashmir Valley in the past two weeks. The most devastating of these recent attacks occurred on October 20, when seven individuals, including a local doctor and two workers from Bihar, were shot dead at a construction site in Ganderbal district.
In response to the escalating violence National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah expressed concern, suggesting that the wave of terror attacks may be aimed at destabilizing the newly-formed government, led by his son, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He called for an independent investigation into the recent incidents, stressing the need for accountability and immediate action to protect civilians in the region.
