Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, made a surprising announcement on Sunday, revealing that the iconic bird logo of the social media platform will soon be replaced.
Musk shared the design of the new logo, which is simply the letter ‘X’, on his Twitter account. He mentioned that Twitter will gradually move away from the bird logo and, if a suitable ‘X’ logo is posted, it will be used as the new symbol worldwide.
It’s important to note that Twitter is no longer an independent company; it has been merged with a newly formed firm called X Corp after the merger.
Elon Musk hinted at this change by using the letter ‘X’ on his Twitter account. He has been promoting his AI company, xAI, which he claims will have the ability to “understand the universe.”
This move is a significant overhaul of Twitter’s branding since Musk took over the social media platform last year. He has been making radical changes, including mass layoffs and introducing a paid verification plan.
Twitter’s logo change seems to be part of his broader vision for transforming the platform into what he calls “X, the everything app.”
In addition to the logo change, Twitter has also announced new restrictions on direct messages (DMs).
Unverified accounts will soon have daily limits on the number of DMs they can send in an effort to reduce spam.
However, users with paid verification, such as those subscribed to Twitter Blue, will be able to send unlimited DMs without any restrictions.
Elon Musk’s fascination with the letter ‘X’ is not new; he has previously referred to Twitter’s transformation into “X, the everything app” when making other announcements.
Since the merger with X Corp, Musk has been implementing various changes on the platform to shape it according to his vision.
