TMC leader Sushmita Dev condemns Tripura Police for booking 102 Twitter accounts under the UAPA

Tripura–TMC leader Sushmita Dev expresses anger against the Tripura police, condemning them for invoking the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act or UAPA charges against 102 Twitter accounts. The Police have asked Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to stop these accounts and provide details about the account users.
Sushmita Dev, who served as the Congress party’s women’s wing president, resigned in August 2021 and joined Trinamool Congress.
Addressing ANI news, Dev expressed that TMC condemns such acts and clearly states that it can’t face intolerance and violence against any community.
But, the Tripura Police has said that things are generally fine in the state; and nothing is wrong. As of late, they have booked 102 journalists and commentators for commenting on Twitter under the UAPA act.

Sushmita expressed that she and her party leaders were also attacked last month, but the Police took no action. She stressed that the Tripura Police is a puppet in the hands of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Journalist Shyam M Singh and a few other people who have been accused under UAPA moved to the Supreme Court trying to repeal the FIR pressed up against them. Under the strict terms of the UAPA, the charges were slapped against him for tweeting, “Tripura is burning”. The Editors Guild of India had censured the Tripura Police’s action, naming it an endeavor to utilize strict laws to contain journalism on communal violence.
