In a meeting between NCP president Sharad Pawar with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the leaders focused on how to expedite development programmes of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. The wanted to ensure that nothing else be deciphered from the agenda. Pawar mentioned no politics was discussed.
Our view is that some decisions need to be taken fast. His meeting with the Chief Minister was to deliberate on how to expedite the state government’s development programs. There was no political discussion.
On the other hand, NCP party is a key constituent in the Shiv Sena-led MVA government. Thackeray discussed that amid speculation in political circles about differences among the ruling coalition partners, along with the Congress as the third partner in the MVA, a coalition of parties will have different ideologies.
However, the minister said that when the MVA government was formed, the speaker’s post went to Congress. Whichever candidate’s name the Congress gives, it should be finalized by all the allies after discussion. This issue surfaced primarily after the post fell vacant after Congress MLA Nana Patole resigned in February to take over as the party’s state unit president.
It should also be noted that Pawar believes that the Centre should hold talks with farmers from North India who are protesting the new agriculture laws for the last seven months. This is high time when the Centre should step up dialogue with them. Earlier this month, Mr Thackeray had a one-on-one with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Shiv Sena explained it as protocol and said it values personal relations irrespective of political affiliations. For Sharad Pawar’s party, the resignation of Amil Deshmukh and the events surrounding it has been a sore point.
