The First Round of Romania’s Presidential Election Result has been Annulled
The First round of Romanian Presidential Elections took place on November 24, 2024 and the results of these elections was announced the next day on November 25, 2024. The Candidates of this election was Calin Georgescu, represents Ultranationalist Idealogy, Elena Lasconi of Save Romania Union Party, Marcel Ciolacu of Social Democratic Party, and George Simon of Alliance for the Union of Romanians.
On December 6, 2024, Friday, the Constitutional Court of Romania has annulled the election results which was announced on November 25, 2024, the very next day of the first round elections.The allegations was the suspicious victory of Calin Georgescu with the help of Russian interference in the first round of Presidential elections. Following this the court has called off the second-round election which was scheduled to takes place this weekend.
The massive social media promotions and cyber attacks of the Russia favouring the win of Calin has been underscored in the allegations.
The Constitutional Court has stated,
“To annul the entire electoral process for the election of the President of Romania… to ensure the correctness and legality of the electoral process.
The electoral process to elect Romania’s president will be fully rerun, and the government will set a new date… calender for the necessary steps”.
Many pivotal political figures of Romania, other presidential candidates has welcomed this historic statement of court.
