Smriti Mandhana Sets Record, Becomes 1st Player To Score 500 Runs
Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana has made history in the women’s category of The Hundred cricket tournament.
Playing for the Southern Brave, she became the first player to score 500 runs in the history of The Hundred’s women’s competition.
In a match against the Welsh Fire, Mandhana scored 70 runs from 42 balls, hitting 11 fours. This achievement adds to her record of being the first player to score five half-centuries in The Hundred.
Despite Mandana’s impressive performance, her team, the Southern Brave, couldn’t secure a victory. The Welsh Fire won the match by a narrow margin of 4 runs.
The Welsh Fire posted a total of 165/3, with a standout performance from Hayley Matthews who scored 65 runs. In response, the Southern Brave managed to score 161/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
In the 100-ball cricket tournament called ‘The Hundred’, Smriti Mandhana has achieved two records. In a match for her team, Southern Brave, she hit 55 runs from 36 balls.
She hit two sixes in this match, which means she has hit a total of 13 sixes in the tournament so far, making her the player who has hit the most sixes.
Additionally, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues both have four fifties each in ‘The Hundred’. This means they have scored 50 or more runs in four matches each. This makes them the players with the joint-most number of fifties in the tournament.
