US Senator Wants to Make India a Top Friend in Defense
The new idea that has arisen from the leader of the US Government, Senator Marco Rubio is the following. He further opened that the U. S. should have a friendship with India more on the aspect of defence. A new bill, The ‘‘U. S. – India Defense Cooperation Act’’ was initiated on July 25 by him. He thinks India should be treated like the other buddies of the US, which includes:
- Japan
- Israel
- South Korea
- Countries in NATO – a group of allied nations
The US would be sharing more advanced technology with India, which would help protect it from threats.
Why Does Rubio Want This?
Rubio is afraid of China. He claims that China is trying to take over more land and power in the area where India is. He wishes for the US to be able to stand up to China with the help of other countries, especially India.
What Would the Bill Do?
This bill would provide for the following things if it became a law, including, but not limited to, the ones listed herein: protection to India from threats; provision of additional security help to India; cooperation with India in defence, space, and technology stuff; possibly allowing India to buy some things from Russia without getting into trouble; ease of selling defence stuff by the US to India; and permission for India to join special military training programs.

What About Pakistan?
The bill also talks about Pakistan, a country next to India. It says:
- The US should check if Pakistan is encouraging terrorism against India
- If Pakistan is found guilty of encouraging terrorism, the US will no longer give it security aid
What’s Next?
This is still a mere draft of a bill, which requires the approval of many persons in the US government to become law. But, if it were to pass it would bring the U.S. and India closer more specifically in the area of defense.
