On Thursday, a tunnel was found inside the Delhi Legislative Assembly, which was sought to be utilized by the Britishers to keep away from retaliation while moving freedom fighters from the Red Fort.
In 1912, the Delhi Legislative Assembly, which was utilized as Central Legislative Assembly in the wake of the capital moving from Kolkata to Delhi, was converted into a court in 1926, and Britishers used this secret passage to bring Indian freedom fights for trial.

The current Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel stated that when I was rolled as an MLA in 1993, there was a rumour about a secret passage present here that goes to Red Fort, and I began searching for its historical account. However, there was no certainty over it.
“Presently, we have discovered the mouth of the passage, yet we are avoiding to dig it further as many passages are destroyed because of metro construction and many sewer installations,” he added.
“We were aware of the presence of a gallows room inside yet never tried opening it. Presently it was the 75th year of freedom; I chose to inspect it. We are planning to change the room and make it a holy shrine in tribute to our freedom fighters,” Goel told ANI.
