Rohit Sharma to officially lead the ODI, T20 squad. Experts praise the decision
Mumbai – After several months of speculations about Virat Kohli exiting the skipper’s role, the Board of Cricket Council of India finally announced the decision to make Rohit Sharma the captain of the White ball cricket.
With this, Virat Kohli’s five-year-long stint as the captain of the Indian cricket team will come to an end. As per the media release by the BCCI, the committee has decided to let Rohit take charge of ODI and T20I teams “going forward” along with him taking over Ajinkya Rahane as the Test Vice-Captain.
This year in September, Virat Kohli had already announced that he will be stepping down as the skipper for the shortest format after the T20 World Cup where he said that he took this decision because of the workload he has been carrying captaining the team in all the three formats.
At the time of the announcement in September, Kohli had said that by doing this, he will get time to be fully ready to lead India in Test and ODI cricket. But this time, the selectors have decided to make Sharma the captain for ODI as well.
