Rishi Sunak Leads As Best Prime Minister Candidate of United Kingdom
Who would have thought that one day the PM of Britain would be of Indian origin! In the 2nd round of voting, ‘Rishi Sunak’ is leading with 101 votes.
After two rounds of voting, Rishi Sunak, a British citizen of Indian descent, took the lead for the position of prime minister, with trade policy minister Penny Mordont coming in second.
In the meantime, a poll of Conservative Party members indicated that women’s minister Mordont was the front-runner. He is viewed as the greatest obstacle standing in Rishi’s way of becoming the PM.
At the forefront of the first vote round was Rishi Sunak. He received 88 votes. With 67 votes, Penny Mordont came in second.
With 101 votes, Rishi Sunak is in the lead in the second round of voting. In addition, Mordant, who has 83 votes, is still in second place.
According to a survey of 876 Conservative Party members done by “YouGov” three days earlier, Penny Mordont is in the lead. Mordant has the backing of 27% of its members, according to the survey.
With 15% of the vote, Rishi Sunak and Lit Truss are in second place, while Kami Bedinock is in third with 13% of the vote.

There was a vote difference of just 1% between Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordont in an earlier YouGov poll.
Rishi Sunak received 13% of the vote while Penny Mordont received 12% in the poll taken right after Boris Johnson’s departure. The difference between the two has widened after two surveys.
Pm Election After 3 Rounds
The Conservative Party now has a majority in the UK to choose the prime minister after three internal party elections.
Within the party itself, the selection of the prime minister is taking place. There are nomination, elimination, and selection rounds under this. The elimination phase is now underway.
Up until only the final two applicants are left, this round will continue. There will then be a final round of selection. The MPs and other party members vote in it. The successful applicant will be chosen for the position of prime minister.
Rishi Sunak’s claim may be impacted by the distinction between the elimination round and selection round. The survey’s results are significant because of this.
Rishi Sunak’s Political Journey
Since 2015, Rishi Sunak, who is 42 years old, has represented Richmond (Yorks) in parliament. He participated in the Select Committee on Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs from 2015 to 2017.
From January 2018 to July 2019, he served as Parliamentary Under Secretary. He was named Chief Secretary of the Treasury in the Boris Johnson administration in July 2019.
On July 25, 2019, he joined the Privy Council. As part of a cabinet change in February 2020, he was elevated to the position of Chancellor of the Exchequer.
In the midst of the Corona epidemic in March 2020, Sunak unveiled his first budget. He was the first cabinet member to leave recently in opposition to Boris Johnson’s continued tenure as prime minister.
Penny Mordaunt’s Political Journey
Journey into Politics of Penny Mordaunt Mordant, 49, has represented Portsmouth North in parliament since 2010. In the David Cameron-led administration from 2014 to 2015, she served as a deputy minister.
She was given responsibility for the ministry overseeing the armed forces following the 2015 elections. She then oversaw the Theresa Cabinet’s Ministries of Health, International Development, and Defense.

Priti Patel, who is of Indian descent, was then given the Ministry of International Development when she resigned. In the Boris Johnson administration, she was appointed Minister of Trade Policy in September 2021.
At the organizational level of the party, Mordont has also collaborated with John Major & William Hague. She additionally participated in George W. Bush’s presidential campaigns in 2000 and 2004.
