Richa Chadha prefers being vocal about issues, feels it does not impact her work
Madam chief minister leads Richa Chadha has never shied away from talking about the issues of the society even if it has invited nasty comments on her, pinpointing at her every now and then. The actor had recently got a death threat after the release of her film’s trailer but despite that, she refuses to give up speaking about the issues.
The industry Chadha works in is known to play diplomatic tactics when it comes to talking about certain controversial issues. In this pool of actors, many chose to keep mum and only a few ended up speaking their mind, one of which is Richa Chadha. Chadha also feels that she can speak her mind and still be vocal about such issues as it has not impacted her work.
“I don’t think there’s been any impact professionally. Personally, I do feel what happens sometimes is I am held to higher standards than others, that’s the flip side. People expect me to be that, and at times are like ‘we didn’t expect this from you, we wanted better from you’. There is the burden of those expectations,” the Inside Edge actor said while talking to the Hindustan Times.
Like many Hindi movie stars, have said that it is a lot of pressure to speak on these issues especially because they are public figures. Chadha on the other hand feels that on the contrary, it has nothing to do with it. She said that it is more what they think is ‘woke’. Having said that, the 34-year-old has also said that she has received plenty of advice to not be vocal on these issues.
She shares her feelings saying that with most people, they become so guarded with their lives that they start feeling scared about the possibilities that may turn out if they speak up on these issues. Chadha feels that if she is telling the truth then no matter what it should be said without any fear.
She added that with this, she does not intend to insult or hurt anybody but it is just about sticking to the truth. Movie stars have been under scanner for not speaking up or not speaking enough on these issues but Richa Chadha has never let the pressure pile up on her that ultimately reverses her decisions.
She has done a wide range of movies and those choices have time and again reflected what personality she carries. Be it Fukrey, where the actor starred as the bold and outright girl, or Masaan, which was widely appreciated by the international as well as the national audience.
As for being given tags such as ‘female lead’ or ‘female-centric’ is concerned, the actor could not care less. She said that people will use it till they need to use it and till this practice becomes more common so that people automatically stop using it. “I think these things will continue, I don’t really feel too much about it,” she said.
