Raghav Chadha Becomes Youngest Member Of Rajya Sabha From Delhi Constituency

Raghav Chadha has become the youngest sitting member of the Rajya Sabha. As a graduate of the London School of Economics, the young 33-year-old politician has been instrumental in framing the Delhi Lokpal Bill and was spotted first by Arvind Kejriwal in 2012.

He started his journey as a volunteer who worked hard towards the last days of Indian Against Corruption, the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi. In 2015, he was later appointed as the party’s spokesperson too. He has also been closely involved with legal matters involving the AAP and its members – of which there have been several.

While being teased as a ‘chocolate boy’ in school too, he proved his grit and determination as a natural mediator and communicator. According to party officials, Chadha has been successful in communicating to the party top brass that he is capable of handling big responsibilities. Even before he was named the co-in charge of Punjab before the Assembly polls there, he was the party’s top choice for one of the seven Lok Sabha seats from Delhi in 2019.

With his introduction to the Rajya Sabha, he becomes one of the eight representatives of the party to have found a seat in the Upper House. This comprises three from Delhi and the rest from Punjab.  “Like most other leaders from AAP, his journey has been tough so far but he has held his own. That is what the party expects from him in Rajya Sabha as well,” the party leader has said to the media.

Chadha was serving the Rajendra Nagar as an MLA and has resigned from the Delhi Assembly aswell. he resignation means that bypolls to the Rajendra Nagar assembly constituency should be conducted within the next six months. It will be the first byelection since the 2020 Delhi assembly polls in which AAP won 62 out of the 70 total seats. In a brief speech in assembly earlier today, Chadha thanked the people of Rajendra Nagar for electing him as an MLA in 2020, and also AAP national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for giving him the opportunity.
