The Uttar Pradesh elections are around the corner and the EC decided to take the consent of all the political parties involved in the election to know if they plan on going ahead with the election.
On Thursday, it clarified that all the parties are urging the EC to go ahead with the scheduled dates of the UP elections. Chandra also asserted that the political parties also suggested how the vulnerable groups in the population can be protected from the threat of infection.
Other than that, parties also raised concerns about violations of covid norms in rallies, and to which, they themselves asked for strict curbs to be protected. The remarks were posted after the visit of the Chief Election Commissioner to UP ahead of the state going into polls.
“UP officials have told us that 50 percent of the population is fully vaccinated and that only four Omicron cases have been reported in the state so far,” he said The whole of the panel visited the state after the Allahabad High Court urged to consider delaying the electoral process amid the spike in covid-19 cases.
