Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with European leaders on Tuesday over the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. He expressed his concern over the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) said that PM Modi reiterated India’s appeal for cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue and diplomacy. He spoke to French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish President Andrzej Duda and European Council President Charles Michel over the Ukrainian crisis because the Russian forces moved deeper into Ukraine.
Reportedly, an Indian student was killed in shelling in Ukraine. He died when Russian soldiers blew up a government building on Tuesday. Modi and Macron shared their concerns over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Ukraine. PM Modi talked about the importance of ensuring free and uninterrupted humanitarian access to Ukraine.
PM Modi also briefed Macron on India’s efforts to evacuate its citizens from Ukraine. India sent urgent relief supplies and medicines to people in conflict areas of Ukraine.
PM Modi also talked to Polish President on this matter. He thanked Duda for assisting India in the evacuation of Indian citizens from Ukraine. Modi also thanked him for relaxing the visa requirement for the Indian citizens crossing over to the country from Ukraine.
Modi also recalled the assistance offered by Poland during the Gujarat earthquake in 2001. According to NDTV, Modi informed Duda that Union minister V K Singh would be stationed in Poland as his special envoy to evacuate Indian citizens from Ukraine.
While talking to Michel, he expressed his anguish over the deteriorating situation in Ukraine. Michel condoled the death of an Indian student in Ukraine’s Kharkiv in the shelling.
Reportedly, in 2021, Russia began deploying big numbers of troops close to Ukraine’s borders. Russia invaded Ukraine last week. Later on, the European Union (EU) members agreed to impose economic sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine crisis.
