The PM chaired an important meeting on the pandemic situation where he supposedly discussed the status of vaccination drives in the country. On Saturday, the leader addressed experts and government officials amid the rising concerns about the new staryon of coronavirus which has been named ‘Omicron’ by the World Health Organization.
The meeting was attended by concerned people in the matter including Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, P K Mishra, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and NITI Aayog member (health) Dr V K Paul.
The meeting was much awaited given the Covid-19 station in India as the number of cases is once again witnessing a rise. There was a single day rise of 8,318 new coronavirus infections which has taken the total to 3,45,63,749. However, the county for active cases has seen a declining trend taking the total to 1,07,019.
Talking in length about the matter, Modi wants to be prepared for the virus attack, and hence, he has reportedly directed central government officials to coordinate with the states to keep the medical infrastructure in check with special mention for the pediatric facilities.
PM Modi also asked officials to pay special consideration to ensure the proper functioning of PSA oxygen plants and ventilators. “Its [the new variant’s] implications for India were also discussed,” said a release issued by the PMO. After the security arrangements, the PM also spoke about the pay attention to the new variant where he emphasized on people being cautious about the situation and continuing to follow precautions such as masking and social distancing.
