OTT Releases This Week: Thrillers, Dramas, and Feel-Good Stories

The upcoming week is full of thrilling OTT releases on all platforms that promise to give the right combination of thrillers, emotional dramas, comedies, and family entertainment. Jenna Ortega comes back to Nevermore Academy in Wednesday Season 2 Part 2, and Manoj Bajpayee plays the role of Jim Sarbh in the suspenseful Inspector Zende. Maalik, a hard-boiled crime thriller starring Rajkummar Rao, and Lilo and Stitch, a Disney live-action film, recall the feeling of ohana. Whether it is an animated favorite, a cooking experiment, a reality competition, or any other streaming mood, the lineup this week has something to offer.

Suspense, Crime, and Dark Tales

Thriller enthusiasts will have a lot to look forward to. Inspector Zende (Apple TV+, Sept 5) is based on the true story of the Mumbai cop Madhukar Zende as he pursues serial killer Carl Bhojraj, based on Charles Sobhraj. No less intense, Maalik (Prime Video, Sept 5) explores the underworld of North India, where Rajkummar Rao is forced to deal with all kinds of betrayal, political games, and power games.

Hollywood puts a spin on it with Highest 2 Lowest (Prime Video, Sept 5), with Denzel Washington playing a music mogul who has to make impossible decisions when his son is kidnapped. Kammattam (ZEE5, Sept 5) is the fictitious rendition of a financial scandal in Kerala bringing out greed and deceit in the vision of Inspector Antonio George.

Netflix (Love Con Revenge, Sept 5) puts romance fraud in the limelight when the star of The Tinder Swindler, Cecilie Fjellhoy, collaborates with a private investigator to reveal online scams. In the meantime, the second part of Wednesday Season 2 (Netflix, Sept 3) takes the gothic mystery further, as Wednesday fights against new enemies, and Lady Gaga becomes a part of the show to make it more mysterious.

Lilo and Stitch (JioHotstar, Sept 3) by Disney provides a happy alternative to this: re-adapted into live-action with all its coziness, comedy, and messiness.

Comedy, Music, and Heartwarming Escapes

An enjoyable film to check out is The Runarounds (Prime Video), which tells the story of five friends forming a band while balancing their friendships, romantic relationships, and dreams. The Paper (JioHotstar, Sept 5) is a mockumentary that explores the challenges faced by a struggling Midwestern newspaper in the digital era, capturing the same essence as The Office and filled with workplace comedy.

Foodies may sink their teeth into Dish It Out (Sept 5) when Tilly Ramsay transforms unexpected ingredients into creative dishes in front of celebrity guests and with her trademark flair.

Pokémon Concierge Season 1 Part 2 (Netflix, Sept 4) will delight animation fans with new stop-motion shorts featuring Haru, Psyduck, and new Pokémon entrants.

Lastly, reality competition is given another twist by Rise and Fall (MX Player, Sept 6). It is hosted by Ashneer Grover and features celebrities competing against each other in a rulers vs. workers format, and alliances, betrayals, and high-stakes drama unfold in a 42-day format.
