Nvidia and Tata Group to Build AI Supercomputer
US chip giant Nvidia sealed partnerships with two Indian conglomerates Tata Group and Reliance Industries. With the Tata Group, Nvidia will develop computing infrastructure and platforms for AI-based solutions. Both will work together to build an AI supercomputer which will be powered by Nvidia GH200 Grace Hopper superchip.
The partnership will bring about a ripple-like artificial intelligence driven transformation across Tata Group companies. The American company, as per the deal, will work with Tata Motors to utilize AI in design, engineering, styling, simulation testing, and autonomous vehicle capabilities. Moreover, Nvidia and Tata Communications will build AI infrastructure, with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) using the AI infrastructure to build and process generative AI applications and upskill its workforce.
Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of Nvidia, said the global generative AI race is in full steam. He explained that data centers are shifting to GPU computing to build energy-efficient infrastructure to support the accelerating demand for generative AI. “We are delighted to partner with Tata as they expand their cloud infrastructure service with Nvidia AI supercomputing to support the exponential demand of generative AI startups and processing of large language models.”
N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, said advancements in AI have made artificial intelligence a central priority in governments, industries and society at large. He acknowledged that the impact of AI and machine learning is going to be profound across industries and every aspect of people’s lives. “Our partnership with Nvidia will democratize access to AI infrastructure, accelerate build-out of AI solutions and enable upgradation of AI talent at scale.” Chandrasekaran said Tata Group’s presence across sectors with Nvidia’s deep capabilities offers numerous opportunities for the partnership to further India’s AI ambition.
In regards to collaboration with Reliance Industries, Nvidia will provide computing power needed to build a cloud AI infrastructure platform. Reliance company, Jio will look after and maintain the infrastructure and customer engagement.
