Now Streaming on Netflix, the Malayalam Thriller Officer On Duty
The Malayalam film industry has recently showcased a string of gripping action and crime thrillers. Officer On Duty is the latest entry into that illustrious list. It is directed by Jithu Ashraf a debutante director. Kunchacko Boban is the go-to for the project, which has already made an impact at the Malayalam box office.
The film, however, failed to grab as much attention among Telugu and Tamil audiences during its theatrical run. Now that it has made its way onto Netflix, Officer on Duty will have yet another opportunity to engage a potentially broader audience online. As of March 20, it is available for streaming in five languages, including Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada. Only time will tell how well it does on the OTT platform.
A Crime Thriller with Depth
Harishankar is a tough and short-tempered cop reduced in rank to Circle Inspector. Suddenly, he has to start investigating a complaint against Chandrababu, who runs illegal jewelry business activities, and from then on, everything starts spiraling out of control. What unfolds from further inquiry into the case is horrifying and very sadly linked with the cops’ own very black past. Themes such as crime-justice-revenge and the psychological struggles of the law-enforcement forces are to be explored very deeply by the film.
