NDRF Rescues 28 People In Himachal Pradesh, Evacuates 750 People

The Yamuna River reached a record-breaking height of 208.08 meters, surpassing the previous record set 45 years ago by a significant margin. As a result, several districts along the riverbank have experienced severe flooding.

The overflowing Yamuna River has prompted the evacuation of over 750 people and more than 250 animals in Delhi.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been actively involved in coordinating rescue operations with various authorities.

The efforts of NDRF teams include making public announcements, organizing rescue boats, and utilizing drones to locate stranded individuals and animals.

In another operation, the NDRF successfully rescued 28 shepherds and trekkers who were stranded in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, due to heavy rains, landslides, and flash floods.

Accompanied by personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Home Guard, the NDRF team embarked on the rescue mission despite road blockages and stayed overnight at a local school.

The rescue operation involved the use of anchored ropes, as shown in visuals of the courageous efforts to cross the river and reach safety.

The stranded individuals were located approximately 15 kilometers from Kafnu village. Despite challenging conditions and continuous rainfall, the joint rescue team, led by NDRF Inspector Prem Kumar Negi, demonstrated remarkable courage and professionalism in ensuring the safe rescue of all 28 individuals.

Looking ahead, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh from July 14 for a duration of four to five days.

This prediction raises concerns about intensifying the ongoing flooding situation in the state and potentially exacerbating the floods in Delhi.

According to Surendra Pal, the chief of the Shimla Meteorological Department, rainfall intensity is expected to be lower initially but will strengthen again on July 14, with continuous rains anticipated for the following days.

The NDRF’s swift response in both the Yamuna River flooding in Delhi and the rescue operation in Himachal Pradesh are safeguarding lives and mitigating the impact of natural disasters.
