Mysuru Express Hits Goods Train, Many Coaches Derailed
On October 11, 2024, around 8:30 pm, two trains met a collision at Kavarapettai railway station with Mysuru-Dibrugarh Express. One was a Passenger train having LHB coaches and other was a Goods train and the accident happened when the Passenger train was moving at a speed of 75 km/hour to link 12 to 13 coaches, and some of the passengers were injured.
Rescue and Relief Operations
As soon as the accident occurred Southern Railways embarked on search and rescue missions within the crash zone. Transportation was provided by a doctor and an ambulance, medical relief van and a rescue tapped. Many of the passengers have been evacuated with some of the injured persons being taken to other hospitals. The rest of the fellow passengers are being offered other transport alternatives arrangements.
A special 30-member NDRF team from Chennai has also been sent to the accident spot to help in the rescue missions. Chennai division’s railway authorities have provided two contact numbers – 04425354151 and 04424354995 for informing the families of the deceased and the public.
Impact on Railway Operations
Catastrophe has occurred and it has had effects on operations of the railway systems in the area. Train movements in both up and down directions have been suspended and several trains have been affected. Southern Railways has made the arrangements for diversions and rescheduling of many of its trains which are expected to reduce the impact on the passengers.

The officials of the railway department are looking after the spot where the work of reconstructing the track is going on. The Railway has called for a high-level inquiry into the accident to ascertain the cause and ensure other such circumstances do not happen again.
