Modi Censured Violence After Canada Temple Incident
The dubious video which has been uploaded on social media became viral in which the people of Indian origin in Canada were visiting the Hindu Sabha Mandir Temple located in the city of Brampton. They went on to celebrate in the temple ahead of diwali celebrations. Meanwhile, some anonymous protesters of the Khalistan movement were holding their yellow flags. In demand of a separate homeland for sikhs which is their primary principle, they began to protest and it transformed into an attack and clash with the people who came to the Hindu Temple and the temple also underwent the attack and ended in few damages. These tensions proliferated into isolated fights between the protestants and the people.
The deliberate attack on the Hindu Sabha Mandir Temple in Brampton allured the condemnation of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Statement after the attack
“Three people had been arrested and criminally charged following the attack and investigating their several acts of unlawfulness” – said Canada’s Peel Regional Police.
Condemnation of India PM Modi and other International Leaders
“I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law” – India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his X.
“Every Canadian has the right to practise their faith freely and safely” – Canada PM Justin Trudeau
“Violence anywhere is wrong” – Leader of the New Democratic Party, Jagmeet Singh.
“Extremists and Separatists were behind the violence, calling on the Canadian government to ensure that all places of worship are protected from such attacks” – Indian Foreign Minister, Jaishankar
“Completely unacceptable and must be condemned” – Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario.
Deteriorating Relationship of Indo-Canadian
Canada has the largest population of migrated people from all the places in the world. The estimated population of people with Indian origin in Canada is 1.7 million. It is pivotal for the Indian government to take a call on such emergencies or any unacceptable attacks over the citizens. India has been maintaining the relation with Canada carefully for a long time but it started to get tense when Canadian PM Trudeau questioned and accused the Indian government for the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was an advocate & activist of Khalistan. The rift became even worse when Canada repelled six Indian diplomats and the country’s high commissioner.
These events have halted the further development between the two countries regarding the trade talks and bilateral cooperations.
