Mission Sindoor: India’s Counter-Offensive After Pahalgam Assault – Know This Mission

Mission Sindoor: What is it?
This high-risk operation was undertaken by the Indian armed forces and involved strikes against terrorist camps following their movements along the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to officials in the armed services, precision air strikes targeted camps in PoK or reunited the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
The strikes were precisely planned, and it was a very comprehensive aerial strike involving the Indian Air Force and special operations on the ground. Reports suggest that several terror launchpads were hit deep in PoK, with very minimal risk to Indian personnel and no civilian casualties reported.

Why has India launched it now?
The attack in Pahalgam had unleashed a wave of national anger and mourning. Militant action in the vicinity of Pahalgam had effectively ambushed a bus filled with a mix of visitors and security personnel, which resulted in several deaths and injuries. As a result, the voices demanding a strong response from the government were growing louder and more insistent.
Response
The mission has drawn enough instant reaction internationally. Pakistan condemned the strikes and claimed they would have consequences, while India’s authorities immediately followed with statements reiterating that it was a targeted counterterrorism response, not an act of aggression.
The country has put additional security on its border, while behind-the-scenes diplomatic initiatives are figuring out ways to manage the tensions and avoid escalation.

Air Travel Disruptions from Mission Sindoor
The military exercise prompted Pakistan to close airspace in the north, resulting in the disruption of air travel for civilians. Emirates, one of the region’s prominent international carriers, has cancelled all its flights to Lahore, Sialkot, Islamabad, and Peshawar until further notice; Flights to Karachi remain unaffected.
Mission Sindoor embodies India’s sharpened response towards cross-border terrorism. The long-term outcomes of this operation – apart from the loss of control over territory and interests in Pakistan – are ongoing; the messaging is clear – India can’t be silent towards terror.
