MediaTek Dimensity 1080 Chip To Power Many Mid-range Smartphones
MediaTek is going to replace their Dimensity 920 with Dimensity 1080 Chip which will power several mid-range & budget smartphones.
The Dimensity 920 processor, which powered the Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge, Realme 9 Pro Plus, and other mid range smartphones, has been replaced by MediaTek.
The Dimensity 1080 will be the new preferred MediaTek system on a chip (SoC) for mid range smartphones. Exceptional power efficiency and improved gaming performance are also touted by MediaTek.

Like its predecessor, the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is built using a 6nm technology. It has an octa-core CPU and two enhanced ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores that can run at speeds of up to 2.6GHz as opposed to 2.5GHz on the Dimensity 920 chipset. This ARM Mali-G68 GPU is present with them.
You may anticipate a comparable level of gaming performance as before because it uses the same GPU. MediaTek, however, promises fresh gaming experiences.
For instance, you may now continue playing games while you are being called – a function that is already on many devices.
Additionally, the Dimensity 1080 is said to be more energy-efficient than previously, which should result in longer battery life.
Researchers observed several Xiaomi handsets with up to 108MP cameras, which the MediaTek Dimensity 920 supported. With HDR10+, the most recent Dimensity 1080 increases the megapixel count to 200MP.
In other words, by late 2022 or early 2023, 200MP camera smartphones should become more commonplace.
The new chipset offers capability for 4K HDR video recording, albeit this time it is “hardware-accelerated,” similar to the Dimensity 1080’s predecessor.
Displays running at 120Hz are supported by the Dimensity 1080, which was also true of the previous version. Additionally, it enables connectivity for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and 5G sub-6GHz networks.
Other characteristics include UFS 3.1 2-lane storage and LPDDR5 RAM. The Dimensity 1080, in contrast to the Dimensity 920, does not offer UFS 2.2 storage in addition to the 3.1 standard.
A minor improvement over the Dimensity 920 appears to be the MediaTek Dimensity 1080. With support for 200MP cameras, the photography department receives a significant update, and the promise of improved power efficiency is promising.
Dimensity 1080-powered smartphones are expected to go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2022, so we won’t have to wait long to reach a conclusion.
