Mass Resignation At RG Kar Hospital: Senior Doctors Stand in Solidarity with Protesting Medics
As many as 50 top professors of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata have resigned in solidarity with the junior doctors on strike for justice for their colleague’s death. The protest has attracted a lot of attention as more medics continue with a hunger strike in protest over the incident.
Mass Resignation Of Senior Doctors
To support their colleagues 50 senior doctors tendered their resignation letters after a meeting at RG Kar Medical College. It was done in retaliation to the fast-unto-death protest carried by junior doctors. Almost all the senior doctors were forced to act since the authorities were not able to meet the demands of the protesting medics. Insiders have it that this resignation is meant to force the administration to consider the points raised by the medical practitioners.
The mass quit came after the Kolkata police refused to grant permission for a protest march by medical workers. This rally was planned to draw awareness over the investigations of a heinous rape and murder of a doctor which has impacted the hospital fraternity.
The Growing Protest
It started when junior doctors wanted to start a fast unto death. Seven junior doctors are heading this protest, which is in honor of their colleague who died. Though some have gone back to work they still participate in the protest in different ways. A token hunger strike was initiated on Tuesday and all medical practitioners in the state joined the protest which indicated that the movement was gaining more support.
