Taking it as the best opportunity, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has dissolved the 2017 national working committee, to form a new one with 20 members and some previous names dropped.

According to Partha Chatterjee, minister and the state secretary-general of TMC,

“After being re-elected as the chairperson of the party, Banerjee had named six party leaders who were taking the decisions to run the party. On Saturday, Banerjee met the leaders and the new committee was formed. The office bearers will be named by Banerjee later.”

Till the time Ms. Banerjee does not announce new office bearers, she will continue to act as the only office-bearer at the national level. Prominent names which were there in the previous list but have been dropped from the new list released on Saturday include TMC MPs, Derek O Brien and Saugata Roy. The 2017-list included Suvendu Adhikari. He joined the BJP in December 2020 ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly polls.
