Maharashtra Moves Forward with Affordable Rental Housing Plan for Students and Workers

The Maharashtra government announced affordable rental homes for workers and students on Friday marking yet another significant decision. In the fast paced city of Mumbai where students and freshers struggle every day to pay the high cost rent, this initiative will be giving a very big impact on them. Comparing all the cities in India, a decent place for rent in Mumbai is far more expensive than any other city.
In order to offer long lasting, reasonably priced and environmentally friendly housing. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave authorities a month to develop a “housing for all” program.
Eknath Shinde said as per the ANI, “In the housing department meeting, various projects pending for years were discussed. It is the responsibility of our government to provide eco-friendly and affordable rental housing. We are preparing a comprehensive policy for students, mill workers and police. This policy is in the best interest of the public. We aim to make a policy for the people of Mumbai who have migrated to different cities and bring them back.”
The head of the housing and urban development department, Ekanth Shinde gave the authorities instructions to remove obstacles preventing the reconstruction of housing projects in Mumbai that have stalled for a variety of reasons.
According to Shinde, a procurement process for the construction of one lakh homes for former mill workers has been finished by the state government. He requested that officials look into the possibility of providing a home in their village to mill workers who have moved back to their hometowns.
According to Shinde, Mumbai will begin cluster redevelopment allowing for the construction of a sizable number of homes. He claims that Maharashtra will be the first state to implement a senior citizen housing strategy.
Additionally, the deputy chief minister examined the status of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the BDD Chawl and Patrachawl redevelopment projects, the MHADA assisted redevelopment of Kamathipura, the GTB Nagar redevelopment and the MHADA assisted redevelopment of Kamathipura.
