LinkedIn Introduces Aadhaar Identity Verification Feature In India
LinkedIn has started Aadhaar ID verification in India for its 10 crore Indian users to enhance authenticity. It’s a simple 6-steps process to authenticate profiles.
LinkedIn has introduced a new feature in India that enables Aadhaar ID verification for its users. With over 100 million members in India, this move aims to enhance user authenticity and trust on the professional networking platform.
The introduction of Aadhaar ID verification is a significant step towards creating a more secure and reliable professional community.
LinkedIn’s verification process, called V.E.R.I.F.Y, consists of six simple steps. Users can visit the ‘About this profile’ section on their LinkedIn profile and click on ‘Verify with Aadhaar’.
They then enter their Aadhaar number on the DigiLocker screen and receive an OTP on their registered mobile number.
HyperVerge, a third-party identity verification service, instantly verifies the information using DigiLocker. Users are then required to match their selfie with their Aadhaar photo. Finally, users can choose to share the verification with LinkedIn, and it will be added to their profile.
The benefits of the verification process are twofold. Firstly, it enhances the professional credibility of users, increasing their chances of accessing better opportunities on the platform.
Secondly, it ensures a more secure and authentic networking experience. Verified LinkedIn members can enjoy a VIP-like status within the professional world.
Privacy is a top priority in this verification process. The user’s DigiLocker documents remain completely secure and inaccessible to LinkedIn.
LinkedIn only receives non-sensitive information from Aadhaar, such as the user’s name, city, and year of birth, which remains invisible to others but is used for security purposes.
For users who do not have an Aadhaar, LinkedIn offers alternative verification methods, such as using their work email or workplace credentials.
This ensures that all users, regardless of their verification options, can have a safer and more secure experience on the platform.
LinkedIn has already launched ID verification in the United States and plans to roll out this feature to other regions as well.
