KL Rahul Eyes Historic Boxing Day Test Hat-trick at MCG, Untouched by Tendulkar and Kohli
Indian cricket team’s opening batsman, KL Rahul, is at the precipice of writing his own cricketing history, as he awaits the fourth Test in the MCG. Having scored centuries in his last two Boxing Day Tests – 123 against South Africa in Centurion (2021) and 101 at the same venue in 2023 – Rahul could achieve what cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli never managed: Brief account of the day when three hundreds were scored in a Boxing day Test.
The MCG is special to Rahul in particular as he made his test debut in the year 2014 and the ground he wants to score this landmark. After getting out for a duck twice in the series, and after facing an unfair decision in the toss, Rahul comes back as the highest run-scorer of the India in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy series with 235 runs at an average of 47 including two fifties. If this achievement is compared with other legends like Tendulkar (3579 runs in 39 Test) and Kohli (2168 runs in 28 Test) against Australia then the potential of the achievement that Rahul is going hit at the historic ground can be well understood.
