King and Queen of Bhutan landed India and they receive a cordial reception from PM Modi
On December 5, 2024 at the capital of the nation, New Delhi, both the King and Queen of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Jetsun Pema respectively. They both were received by the External Affairs Minister of India S.Jaishankar followed by Prime MInister Narendra Modi.
The EAM has informed that Bhutan’s Majesty has arrived as a two-day visit to reinforce the bilateral relationship of India and Bhutan. The bilateral relationship between India and Bhutan began in 1949 and both the countries embraced each other during the tougher periods.
The X post of EAM Jaishankar’s states,
“Honoured to welcome His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, on his arrival in New Delhi today.
His visit will further strengthen our unique bonds of friendship”.
Then, the Indian PM Narendra Modi has also expressed his hearty welcome to His Majesty of Bhutan.
“India and Bhutan enjoy unique ties of friendship and cooperation, which are characterised by mutual understanding and trust. The visit shall provide both sides an opportunity to review the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation and to further advance the exemplary bilateral partnership across diverse sectors” – EAM Press release.
Important Events of the Visit
- Bhutan’s King meeting with PM Modi, EAM and senior officials
- Discussions will be focused on Trade, Education, border agreements, infrastructure, environment and Energy.
Previously, in 2023 the King of Bhutan visited India multiple times and met the important leaders including PM Modi and his cabinet ministers during an eight day visit.
