Kharge’s comment on PM Modi sparks row ahead of Gujarat polls
Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge has done the unthinkable – compared the leader of country to Ravan, a mythological ‘villain’. The act has attracted severe criticism on India’s political platform but also the stunt by Kharge just before the critical Gujarat Assembly elections might hurt the Congress party in the most severe manner.
While addressing a rally in Ahmedabad ahead of the polls in Gujarat, Kharge said, “Modi ji is Prime Minister. Forgetting his work, he keeps campaigning in corporation elections, MLA elections, MP elections, everywhere… All the time he’s talking about himself – ‘You don’t have to see anyone else, just look at Modi and vote’. How many times do we see your face? How many forms do you have? Do you have 100 heads like Ravan?”

The saffron party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the distasteful comments by the opposition party chief towards the head of the country. Former Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani has said the stunt of extending derogatory remarks can cause a major dent on performance of Congress party in Gujarat Assembly elections. Rupani said, “PM Modi`s comparison with Ravana is an insult to Gujaratis and they (Gujarat people) will not tolerate it, this remark will make a dent in the party`s result and benefit BJP in the upcoming polls, with making the grand old party lose the Gujarat elections.”
The head of IT cell of BJP, Amit Malviya too has taken a jibe at Congress party and Kharge for the comments. He tweeted video of Kharge’s speech with a sharp condemning comment. “Unable to take the heat of Gujarat election, pushed to the fringe, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge loses control over his words, calls Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ravan. From “Maut ka Saudagar” to “Ravan”, Congress continues to insult Gujarat and its son…,” Malviya wrote.

With the first round of Gujarat polls beginning on December 1, the remarks by Congress chief have come at a very critical moment. This can very well cost them the elections and votes in Modi’s home state where it is tri-party contest this polls between BJP, Congress and AAP.
