Karan Soni To Voice Spider-Man India In Across The Spider-Verse
Karan Soni will voice Pavitr Prabhakar (aka Spider-Man India). This Spider-Man gets his spidey powers from an ancient yogi & starts fighting crime like Shaktimaan.
Karan Soni, well known for his role as cab driver Dopinder in DC’s Deadpool films, will lend his voice to an Indian version of Spider-Man in the upcoming animated feature film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the entertainment magazine Deadline disclosed on Wednesday.
Karan Soni will reportedly provide the voice of Pavitr Prabhakar, also known as Spider-Man India from an alternate reality, in the film.
On Wednesday, the 34-year-old actor verified the news by posting a screenshot of a news item to Instagram. He wrote, “Still cannot believe I get to be Spider-Man!!
Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in partnership with Marvel Entertainment.
The 2018 film grossed more than $384 million worldwide and won the 2019 Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
For Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Soni adds a voice cast lead by Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld.
Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Jordon Taccone, Shea Whigham, Jason Schwartzman, and Daniel Kaluuya also provide their voices to the film.
On June 2, Across the Spider-Verse, directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson, and Kemp Powers, will be released in theaters.
Spider-Man India debuted in comic books in 2004. The superhero obtained his spider-like abilities from an ancient yogi and began combating crime.
Karan portrayed Dopinder, a taxi driver, in the first two Deadpool films. It is unknown if he will appear in Deadpool 3 or not. Recent appearances include The People We Despise at the Wedding and Not Alright.
In the teaser for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, we saw several flashbacks to the original film, followed by new visuals of Miles and Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy traveling through realms and encountering different versions of the superhero.
There were also glimpses of Issa Rae’s Spider-Woman on a motorcycle, Jorma Taccone’s adversary Vulture, and Oscar Isaac’s vicious Spider-Man 2099.
