Kailash Gahlot’s Party-hopping is being scrutanised in the political arena
The week began with the biggest and an unexpected announcement from the former Delhi cabinet minister Kailash Gahlot’s official entry into the leading and the ruling political party of India, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). On November 18, 2024, former AAP cabinet minister Kailash Gahlot officially joined the BJP in the presence of the General Secretary Dushyant Gautam and Union Minister Manohar Lal, a day after his resignation from his former political association AAP (Aam Aadhmi Party).
His clarification enforced that his party-switch was not compelled or forced by the Enforcement Directorate or CBI. This comment sparked the debate of speculations and many questioned his transparency over his political stand and career.
Who is Kailash Gahlot?
- The 50-year old, Kailash Gahlot, is a lawyer and an active politician in Delhi.
- Became MLA in 2015 for AAP at the Najafgarh constituency followed by sixth & seventh Delhi legislative assembly till 2024.
- Departments he looked after – Finance, Revenue, Law&Justice, Legislative Affairs, Information & Technology, Administrative Reforms, Planning departments and Transport

Kailash’s Official Statement
After joining the BJP he gave many clarifications for the prevailing gossips and questions over his political sudden shift.
“Some people must be thinking that this decision was taken overnight and under someone’s pressure. I want to tell them that I have never done anything under anyone’s pressure to date.
This was not an easy step for me. I have been associated with AAP since the days of Anna Ji and have consistently worked for the people of Delhi.
The purpose for which we had come together is no longer visible today. If a government continuously engages in conflict with the central government on every issue, then the development of Delhi cannot take place.
Instead of fighting for people’s rights we have increasingly only been fighting for our own political agenda.
I firmly believe that Delhi’s development can only happen in collaboration with the central government. This is why I have joined the BJP. I will continue to work inspired by the vision and policies of the Prime Minister”, said the seasoned politician, Kailash Gahlot.
Kailash justified that he resigned from the AAP due to the party’s diluting political vision and incapability to deliver the basic essential services for the people of Delhi.
