Kaantha Release Date Announced, Teaser Released
The wait is over! The long-awaited period movie Kaantha starring Dulquer Salmaan will hit theatres on September 12, 2025. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, just a nice birthday gift for Dulquer, the teaser dropped and is already turning heads with fans and film enthusiasts alike.
A Nostalgic 1950s Overview
Kaantha should bring us back to the 1950s cinema. Dulquer plays a fictional popular film star named Chandran, cast alongside actor Samuthirakani, who plays Ayya, an aggressive filmmaker. They begin with a strong dynamic, with respect and admiration, then the teaser hints at some uneasiness. Bhagyashri Borse, also featured in Kaantha, asks, ‘What happened?’ while setting up the underlying emotional conflict.
Conflict, Tension and Displays of Pride
The teaser establishes and then builds into a powerful tension between the two leads. Ayya intends to write a film that tells the story of Bhagyashri’s character, and Chandran refuses to agree to the direction. Their pride is fighting, and this conflict will serve as an emotional vehicle for the story ahead, ridden with conflict and tension. Black and white imagery brings the feeling of nostalgia, enabling the audience to experience and reflect on the good old days of cinema.

Kaantha has plenty of firepower behind it. The film was produced by Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashanth Potluri, and Jom Varghese under Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films. Cinematography is by Spanish lensman Dani Sanchez Lopez. Editing is by Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez, while the music to stir even the hardest of hearts was scored by Jhanu Chanthar.

Kaantha will release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi to maximize audience reach.
