ISRO PSLV-C60 SpaDex Satellites Launching Today!!
2024 will be ending with the launch of ISRO’s PSLV-C60 SpaDex satellites on December 30 and the space agency has reported that the launch has been scheduled at 10 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. It is the first ever attempt by ISRO with the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDex) Mission which demonstrates the “in-space docking using two small spacecraft”.
“SPADEX will serve as a milestone in advancing India’s capabilities in space docking, a critical technology for future space missions, including satellite servicing, space station operations and interplanetary missions” said the space agency.
It is one of the important moves by the ISRO space agency for the future missions such as sending the human (ISRO astronaut) to the Moon to collect samples and other essentials to build the ISRO station on it.
Specifications : ISRO PSLV-C60 SpaDex
- PSLV-C60 will launch two small spacecraft.
- Chaser and Target – SDX01 and SDX02 each weighs 220 kg, 470 km circular orbit (each) and 55 degree inclination
- SDX02 will separate primarily in 15 minutes after the launch followed by SDX01.
- Vehicle Height – 44.5m
- Lift off Mass – 229 tonne
- Four Propulsion Stages
“With a similar strategy of introducing and then compensating for a small relative velocity between the two spacecraft, the Chaser will approach the Target with progressively reduced inter-satellite distances of 5km, 1.5km, 500m, 225m, 15m, and 3m ultimately leading to the docking of the two spacecraft” – ISRO.
