Ishan Kishan’s Powerful Comeback: A Century and a Message to Selectors
The young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has come out with a solid statement in the Duleep Trophy. Kishan who had a terrible year and was left out of the national team has started his domestic cricket campaign with a century against India D while playing for India C.
Kishan’s Journey: From Setback to Comeback
Kishan’s career was on the rise last year, but things turned ugly when he decided to leave India’s tour of South Africa in between. He decided to take a break and his unwillingness to play domestic cricket further resulted in the BCCI canceling his central contract in February. This loss was enough to reduce him to the standby the selectors and doubted his seriousness in the game.
But Kishan has come back strongly by returning back to domestic cricket. He was first noticed in the Buchi Babu tournament where he made a hundred for Jharkhand against Madhya Pradesh. The young cricketer however had a minor hitch when he suffered from a groin injury but he was back in form during the Duleep Trophy where he made a brilliant 111 off 126 balls for India C.
This performance is not about numbers alone, but it has a lot of meaning. Kishan thought it wise to make a stand on Instagram and when marking his century celebration, he wrote “Unfinished business.” This statement is an indication that Kishan is bent on getting back to the Indian cricket team.
The Road Ahead for Kishan
As for Kishan’s recent performances, they are quite positive, although he will have a difficult time trying to get back into the national team. Earlier India head coach Rahul Dravid had said that Kishan should play domestic cricket for Jharkhand to be selected for the national team. It appears that Kishan has adopted this advice and this can be seen from his appearances in local competitions recently.
It is now up to the young cricketer to post good performances in domestic cricket if he has to have a bright future. Thanks to the fans who are actively demanding Kishan’s return on social networks as well as his desire, Kishan seems ready to try hard to get back to the Indian team.
