Instagram Down: Meta-Owned Platform Suffers Outage Again
Meta’s social media platform Instagram is down for several users. 780 users have reported facing glitches in Reels & Stories features on Instagram.
Instagram, the popular photo sharing platform owned by Meta, has reportedly experienced an outage, causing disruptions for users in the United States.
The outage began in the early hours of Thursday, May 18, with users encountering difficulties logging in, accessing their feeds, and experiencing glitches in the stories feature.
Despite the widespread user reports, the company has not released an official statement addressing the issue.
According to Downdetector, an outage detection tool, user reports reached their peak at 7:19 AM. Downdetector received reports from 780 users regarding the Instagram outage.
The majority of users, around 63 percent, reported issues with loading the app, while 26 percent had trouble logging in, and 12 percent were unable to access the website.
Downdetector took to Twitter, stating that Instagram had been experiencing issues since 10:04 PM EDT and encouraged users experiencing problems to retweet.
This tweet aimed to acknowledge the widespread disruption and gather more information about the extent of the outage.
Interestingly, Instagram had recently introduced several new features the day before the outage occurred.
These features included rewards for artists, the ability to use gifs in comments, enhancements to the Reels editor, and more.
The platform intended to improve the overall user experience and provide creators with the opportunity to earn money through fan and follower gifts in the form of stars.
Regarding the gifs in comments feature, users can now visually express their opinions by posting a gif in the comment section of a post.
This functionality aligns with similar features available on Facebook, where users can choose from a variety of gif options.
In addition, Instagram made enhancements to the Reels editor by introducing tools such as Split, Speed, and Replace.
