India’s First Night Street Circuit for Racing Championships In Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu government and Racing Promotions Private Limited (RRPL) have introduced a new street circuit for racing events in Chennai.
This unique circuit, located around the Island Grounds in the city, spans 3.5 kilometers and is the first-ever street circuit in India and South Asia to host night races.
The circuit was launched by Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu.
It offers a stunning view of the Marina Beach Road and the Bay of Bengal, passing through landmarks like Island Grounds, Victory War Memorial, and the Napier Bridge. The track features 19 corners with several chicanes, adding excitement to the races.
The Chennai Formula Racing Circuit is set to host two major racing events: the F4 Indian Championship and the Indian Racing League.
The F4 Indian Championship is a racing competition for both Indian and international drivers.
It’s a certified championship by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) and offers points towards the FIA super license. This championship is designed to nurture aspiring racing drivers.
The Indian Racing League, on the other hand, is a team-based racing format. Each team consists of four drivers, including two Indians and two international drivers.
Among the international drivers, there must be at least one female driver, promoting gender diversity in motorsports.
The league aims to provide a platform for both men and women to showcase their racing skills in a competitive environment.
The Tamil Nadu government will invest 42 crores for the event, while RPPL plans to contribute 200 crores. The new circuit’s flexibility allows it to host night races, adding a unique dimension to motorsports in India.
The F4 Indian Championship and the Indian Racing League are scheduled to take place on December 9-10, bringing an exciting and novel experience to racing enthusiasts and participants alike.
