With this, the team has ensured itself of the very first medal in Stage one. The seat was confirmed by the top ranked Indian players–Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari. The top seeded trip got the better of the Spaniards in six straight sets.
The Indian side was consistent with its shots and took a comfortable lead by 6-0 and booked their places for the gold medal clash against the tough competitors–Mexico. The match against Mexico is scheduled for Sunday.
Deepika and Komalika scored 55 in their respective turns while Ankita scored 56. They prevailed over the experienced trio of Elia Canalas, Ines De Velasco and Leyre Fernandes in straight sets. The tournament was being held at the sports complex Los Arcos, where earlier during the day, the Indian contingent had defeated Guatemala City in similar fashion.
