Indian stars come together for ‘Play for India’ initiative to help sports community

“Play for India” initiative launch was encouraged by the biggest names in Indian sports fraternity who came together to support it. The initiative is aimed at assisting individuals associated with Indian sports who have been hard hit by the COVID-19 induced nationwide lockdown leading to non-operational stadia and sports complexes. The support staff at the sports venues and training centers are among the worst affected section of sports community.
‘Play for India’ initiative has been put together with the prime objective of bringing together the athletes, fans and channels of India to combine their efforts streamlining for supporting the background staff of all sports, who are basically the backbone of Indian sports.
The beneficiary people would include cleaners, gardeners, judges, coaches, caddies and also service employees.
The initiative launch video featured India’s cricket World Cup winning hero Yuvraj Singh. He says in the video, “The sports we all love are made possible only because of the efforts of many unknown, unrecognized figures who support India’s sporting structures. They are vital to every sports fan in the country, but today they have all been struggling because of sports and sporting facilities being closed. They need us to navigate these challenging times.”
The initiative for supporting sports community in India is being backed by many sports people like tennis star Sania Mirza, Dipa Karmakar, Bajrang Punia, cricketers like Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, and many reputed sports organizations in the country.

“The ‘Play for India’ initiative aims to provide monetary and non-monetary support to the people who form the very backbone of sports in India. Be it players or fans, together we have the power to come together and truly Play for India” said actor Abhishek Bachchan who is also the owner of Jaipur Pink Panthers team in Pro Kabaddi League and Chennaiyin FC in Indian Super League.
The initiative website can be visited for donating and volunteering. Various causes can be supported through the ‘Play for India’ initiative where it permits individuals to extend helping hand in education, mental wellness, and hygiene for sports community. ‘Play for India’ has the immediate objective to support people affected by pandemic lockdown associated with sports in the country. However, the initiative plans to continue work for worthy causes and people in need in future.
