The Indian government is looking to focus a lot more on enhancing the existing technology in India. They are currently trying to bring in an indigenously developed Operating System to boost the Indian Minds.
The center has talked about its plans to come up with a policy that will be promoting an ecosystem where the brilliant minds of India are able to create an indigenous operating system as an alternative to Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS.
The idea was stressed by the Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Monday. “There is no third one.”
“Therefore, in a lot of ways there is tremendous interest in MeitY and in the Government of India to even create a new handset operating system,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of having an alternate operating system given the cruciality of the whole situation. The mobile has majorly been occupied with two operating systems– one belongs to Google and the other one is Apple.
In a way these tech giants are not just controlling the software but also the hardware ecosystem. He expressed that the center is finding an opportunity to utilize the infrastructure and manpower within start-ups to develop an indigenous operating system (OS).
An OS is the main and most essential software of any computer or mobile device. It essentially connects the whole functions and hence it is deeply integrated to make the hardware and software work effectively. The minister stressed that if they find that there is some real capability then the government will surely ensure funding to promote the OS.
