India U-17 Football Team Wins 4-1 Against Atletico Madrid U17
The India Men’s Football U17 team secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Atletico Madrid U17 in a friendly match in Madrid on 19th April, 2023.
The India U-17 squad recorded an easy 4-1 victory against Atletico de Madrid U17 in a friendly match that occurred in Madrid on April 19, 2023.
This match is the first of a series of games that the team will play against top Spanish clubs. Bibiano Fernandes’ team is on an exposure tour before their assignment at the AFC U17 Asian Cup in Thailand.
The team was well-prepared and showed no signs of faltering in their quality and temperament.
India initiated the scoring in the 6th minute of the match after surviving some attacks from Atletico.
Korou Singh Thingujam seized a pass on the right flank and took a shot at the goal, resulting in India taking an early lead.
Atletico was pushed on the defensive, and India solidified their defense to block their chances. Surajkumar Ngangbam, the team captain, led the pack by consistently clearing inbound crosses and blocking shots.
After thirty minutes of playtime, India doubled their lead with Korou serving as the provider this time. The winger received Danny Meitei’s throw-in and crossed the ball into the box for Lalpekhlua to score.
Two minutes later, India scored their third goal, with Lalpekhlua becoming the provider this time by crossing from the left and allowing Shashwat Panwar to open his tally.
Atletico managed to score in the 38th minute, with Gabriel getting a rebound after Sahil’s save from the initial attempt to keep the hosts in the game as they headed to the break.

In the second half, India played defensively, focused on maintaining their shape, concentration, and discipline. The team played on the counter and kept Atletico at bay, not allowing them to build anything dangerous and controlling the midfield well.
Coach Bibiano Fernandes used this opportunity to give more squad members a chance to play, and in the 89th minute, Korou achieved his second assist of the game, crossing to substitute Gogocha Chungkham, who scored to seal India’s remarkable win.
