India To Host Women’s World Table Tennis Series Event In Goa
India is going to host the Women’s World Table Tennis series tournament next year in Goa. The event will be held between 27th Feb to 5th March, 2023.
It is announced that India will host India’s maiden World Table Tennis Series (WTT) event in Goa, which will take place from February 27 through March 5.
The Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, which is located on the Goa University Campus, will host the top-tier WTT Star Contender Goa 2023.
Rohan Khaunte, state tourism minister of Goa, stated in a press conference that “we are happy that Goa was chosen as the host for the WTT event in India for the first time,”
He said, “Goa is our nation’s most popular tourist destination. I am thrilled to welcome WTT to my shores as they announce WTT Contenders Goa2023 as the first event on the WTT Calendar.”
Stupa Analytics, an Indian sports analytics company, will host the tournament with the active support of the Goa government.
WTT Series is an official series of professional table tennis events. It features the best players from around the world playing in different category tournaments throughout each year. The Grand Smashes are the ultimate prize.
48 people will compete in six Star Contender events. Only the top 30 worldwide ranks are eligible to play. Four of them must be among the top 20.
Star Contender events offer a 16-team main draw for doubles and an 8-team main draw for mixed doubles.
Each singles qualifier gets eight and four doubles qualifiers, while the host country receives enough wild-card entries for both doubles and singles.
“The WTT Star Contender will bring the new brand of Table Tennis in India to India. We believe that this will be the beginning of many WTT events across India. Matt Pound, WTT’s managing director, said that Goa will be a great place to play Table Tennis and they will all enjoy it together.
